HAPPY FRIDAY!! I am so thankful that it is finally Friday and my hell week is over! Although this week has been non stop craziness it has also been on of the best weeks I have had with my internship! The week got off to a bumpy start because I was sick so couldn’t drive home to work the Showgram Monday, which was disappointing but I felt horrible!

Tuesday:

I woke up and went to my first class at 8am, still not feeling 100%, while in this class I had three missed calls from different bosses at work so I was very confused then Tiana texted me and said “guess what” so my first thought was oh no I am in trouble for missing work Monday they are mad at me or something so I reply “…what” and she goes on to tell me that iHeartMedia decided to make this a paid internship and that effective immediately we would be getting paid! Obviously this made my day because that is why my bosses and been calling me so the best internship better is now even better!! I was so excited after talking to my boss about all the details that the rest of the day flew by then I was out of class at 2pm and went and picked up #sadiethephotogenicwienerdog and headed onto my three hour drive to Raleigh. After getting stuck in tons of 5 o’clock Raleigh traffic I finally made it to the RBC Center around 5:30 (30 minutes late). By the way the concert I was working was SAM SMITH!! We set up in front of the RBC center as usual with a tent and table for ticket upgrades then we had our instagram board again as well as some English props since that is where Sam Smith is from. My mother loves Sam Smith and since Tiana didn’t work we had an extra ticket so my mom and I were able to go to the show and it was incredible!! At the end of the show I started feeling sick again so I passed out when we got back home and I slept in until 11pm since I don’t have class on Wednesdays.

Wednesday:

I left Raleigh around lunch time to head back three hours to Boone to work on a case study with my group for a presentation yesterday. I got home from the library around 2am and took a shower then fell asleep for class at 8am the next morning.

Thursday:

When I woke up I got ready had to dress professional for my presentation then after being in class until 2pm it was yet again time to get in my car and drive another three hours back to Boone but because of the gorgeous weather yesterday I decided to hang out with my roommates then go to dinner. 8pm is when I left Boone last night for Raleigh!! It was the worst drive ever I do not know what I was thinking, but I finally got home around 11pm worked on my horseshoe and hand grenade questions and finally fell asleep around 1am.

Today (Friday):

On Friday’s I set two alarms one for 3:45am and the other for 4:00am and I normally don’t even need the alarms because I really do love my internship so I get excited and wake up right at my alarm. Today was a different story, if my dad didn’t come in my room at 4:15am I would have completely missed work but that is the benefit to working a radio show I can roll out of bed and go! I made it to work on time but then Tiana’s keys got stuck in her car and I had to go save the day so we got up to the studio around 5:10 and immediately started doing our Friday morning routine of printing out forms for out studio audience and for me printing of the horseshoe and hand grenades questions and getting them approved by Brooke (PB). Today was a great day and it started when I gave PB my questions, she told me that they were perfect then began to tell me that Elic (who I normally work with during the show) was sick and leaving so that Tiana and I would be completely in charge today so she gave me a few new things that I was going to need to do and being the perfect intern I am ;) I said “alright sounds good, bring it on” then when I was leaving she was telling Erica I was doing a good job which made me smile ear to ear. After talking to her I went to pick up the Bojangles that we get every Friday for the Friday Free For All (FFA) studio audience and I got lost going there (typical Shelby move) but I eventually figured it out and brought it back upstairs and set everything up and then it was time to get the studio audience and bring them into the kitchen area which is where they wait and fill out paperwork until it is time to take them into the studio. Normally on Fridays I just bring them to the room and Elic does the rest but today it was all me! I brought them in the kitchen told them to feel free eating all the Bojangles they want and told them to fill out all the paper work and name tags and that I would be back shortly. During the show I took my breaknotes then at the next commercial break PB and I went into the kitchen and explained to them how everything works during the FFA then took them into the studio. Once everyone gets in the studio we take a group picture and then we pick the first person to come sit in the “hot seat”. Usually we have about 20 people in our studio audience so obviously we don’t get to talk on air with everyone of them so before the show they fill out a “5 crazy things” and then Erica and PB decide what is the most compelling for the show. Today’s major priority was Erik Smallwood who is a country singer from Fayetteville, NC. They talked to him and bit and then after the second commercial break he actually sang with his guitar live on air. This was pretty cool because it is always great to see local singers/bands getting to play live on the show.

Overall this week was crazy, exhausting and full of driving but this internship is truly so rewarding and every day I am meeting new people and learning something new and it is truly an honor !
